Best of San Diego Comic-Con 2013 (Part 1) – Comics
San Diego Comic-Con (properly Comic Con International: San Diego), is a multigenre convention held annually in the US in San Diego, California. It is a convention that brings together the fans, creative teams and businesses who make and consume comic books, science fiction/fantasy and film/television and related art forms.
Originally showcasing comic books, science fiction/fantasy and film/television, and related popular arts, the convention [Comic Con] now includes a larger range of pop culture elements, such as horror, animation, anime, manga, toys, collectible card games, video games, webcomics, and fantasy novels. The San Diego Comic Con 2013 just ended and as Leti Games, works and plays in the same space that Comic Con attendees and exhibitors do, we followed it as much as we could. This year our current schedule as we prep for launch means we couldn’t follow as much as previous years.
However, here is the best of the little we gleaned from Comic Con 2013 via articles, blog posts and videos online, presented in three parts focusing on Comics, Games and TV/Film. We start off with comics.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (20th Anniversary Comic)
A lot of us growing up were Power Rangers fans and probably followed the series in its original form and the many reboots along the line. Well, in a nod to the past, the graphics novel publisher of Power Rangers, Papercutz, announced a new Power Rangers comics using the original cast at Comic Con.
The new Power Rangers comic returns to the original cast in a “lost episodes” graphic novel format. With a whole new generation of fans current enjoying Power Rangers: Megaforce, it’s time for the older fans to get back in on the action. IGN.com
The series will be available for purchase in May 2014 and provides older generations of fans with content based on the Power Rangers they knew and loved.

Tomb Raider: The Comic
Lara Croft and Tomb Raider have always been a staple in the gaming world and although the buzz around the franchise died down a bit, the new game has shown Lara Croft still has a lot of mojo left in her.
Crystal Dynamics™(a Square Enix® studio) and Dark Horse Comics, had revealed earlier in the year, their partnership to bring Lara Croft back to print in her own new comic.
Comic Con helped us flesh this vision out when in an interview with Kotaku, Gail Simone, one of the writers, reveals that the comic will act a bridge between the just released game, and the one that’s coming up next.
“We start just a few weeks after the end of the game, and this is all in continuity, it will be Tomb Raider canon, and lead DIRECTLY into the sequel. This is what got me excited; we get to be part of Lara Croft history.”

We like this concept of keeping the story continuous through different formats and will be keeping an eye on how the franchise does based on this new concept.
Assassin’s Creed: Brahman
UbiWorkshop, an arm of Ubisoft, also unveiled a new comic book at the San Diego Comic-Con. The comic is titled, Assassin’s Creed: Brahman. It introduces the story of a member of the Brotherhood, Arbaaz Mir and is set in 18th-century India.
India – 18th Century. The story follows the adventures of Arbaaz Mir as he faces down a foe who subjugated his land and people and who’s now in possession of an artefact that may be a very powerful Piece of Eden. Will he disobey the Brotherhood and take the life of his greatest foe? Will he uncover the secret of the artefact? Will his connection to Abstergo programmer Jot Soora be revealed?
The writers of the new comic explain the background of the story and what to expect in an exclusive interview with Ubi Workshop.
There were plenty of additional announcements but these were the big ones that caught our attention as we scanned for content around Comic Con 2013 and comics. Tell us about the ones we missed or what your favourite announcement around comics was at this years Comic Con in the comments.
