Why Karmzah Is Trending Lately Within The Game Industry
How it started
It all began in Kigali (Rwanda) while Farida Bedwei listened to Eyram Tawia, CEO of Leti Arts during a session on the beauty of art and comics. Immediately, a bulb lit in her head, what if we had a superhero unlike any other, one who defied the norms and shattered stereotypes? Little did she know that her creation would spark a revolution and inspire countless individuals around the world.
Farida Bedwei, a woman of unparalleled resilience and creativity, was no stranger to adversity. Born with cerebral palsy, she faced numerous challenges in her life. However, she refused to let her disability define her. Instead, she embraced her uniqueness and turned her experiences into a source of strength.
As a talented software engineer and advocate for disability rights, Farida understood the power of representation. She knew that the world needed to see people like her as heroes, capable of achieving extraordinary things. So sometime down the line, she would go on to work in the telecom software industry, developing mobile gateways and services for mobile networks and content providers, resulting in over 600 microfinances benefiting from her innovation. A large portion of these beneficiaries were women. Then, she went on to serve on the Board of Ghana’s National Communications Authority.
Finally, she set out to create a character in collaboration with Eyram and the Leti Arts team who would challenge perceptions and empower others. Farida hoped her creation would improve social attitudes towards people with cerebral palsy and other disabilities and the revolution of that wish has begun.
Enter Karmzah, the brainchild of Farida’s imagination and the embodiment of her indomitable spirit. Karmzah was not your typical superhero; she was a young woman with cerebral palsy who discovered her superpowers through a twist of fate. Karmzah whose real name is Morowa was an archaeologist who got her power from her crutches that she had to use for her cerebral palsy.
Launched on October 30th, 2018, the first issue of the comic follows her studying ancient artifacts at the Baga Research Center (BRC), where she works. Her journey takes an extraordinary turn as she interacts with a specific Malawian artifact, unleashing her trusty steed(MUZU) and a profound transformation that metamorphoses her into the formidable Karmzah, her empowering alter ego. With her trusty steed and her intellect as her greatest weapons, Karmzah embarked on a mission to fight crime and injustice in her city.
Slowly but surely, Karmzah began to make her mark on the world. Her comics gained a loyal following, capturing the hearts and imaginations of readers young and old. Farida’s message resonated far beyond the borders of Ghana, reaching individuals from all walks of life who were inspired by Karmzah’s courage and determination.
How it is going
Today, Karmzah stands as a beacon of hope and empowerment, a testament to the power of storytelling to effect change. Farida Bedwei’s creation has reached the pages of comic books, Heroes League, and has now become a game called Karmzah Run and most recently Karmzah: Blitz Racers on Fortnite.
The journey of Karmzah took an exciting turn with the soft release of “Karmzah Run,” a mobile game that brought the adventures of our beloved heroine to life in an interactive format. Karmzah Run is a 3D side-scroller platformer. It’s an action auto-runner game, where players perform amazing stunts, dodge hazards, and chase down enemies in a fast-paced game with new-generation 3d graphics. The game offers a dynamic blend of archaeological exploration and superheroic crime-fighting where players step into the shoes of Morowa Adjei, seamlessly transitioning between her roles as an archaeologist and the groundbreaking superhero. Using crutches adds a unique twist to combat, creating a visually stunning and engaging experience.
Karmzah also became a dynamic addition to the Hero’s League, a kid-driven, game-based learning platform featured in Heroic Game Day. On the platform she wields superpowered crutches to defend the world and educates her teammates on diverse cultures, enhancing their unity and collective prowess.
The recent addition of Karmzah to the Fortnite universe further sparked excitement among gamers worldwide. Titled “Karmzah: Blitz Racers,” this new game within Fortnite offers a thrilling experience, blending death race mechanics with elements of running, sliding, jumping, and battling deadly creatures. Set against the stunning backdrop of Ghana’s landscapes, players will dash through iconic landmarks like castles, the National Theatre, and even the Parliament House. At the heart of the adventure is Karmzah herself, accompanied by her trusty steed, MUZU. Serving as a guide, Karmzah leads players through the perilous terrain, steering them away from danger zones to safety.
