What I Did This Week:

This week, we made significant progress on the game we have to develop (Legendary
Mask Quest as we decided), particularly on the design side. I was focused on:

– Finalizing the storyline and all the characters that we will find.

– Sketching two out of the five legendary masks (Zulu Mask + Snake and Chokwe Mask

– Punu Mask + Eagle) and five regular mask concepts, each of them representing an
animal or element of nature (a frog, a monkey, a cheetah + panther, a leaf + bird, a tree
like Grook). Overall objective was to blend traditional African mask forms with animal
symbolisms.

– Writing on the world design for all five quests, ensuring each of the five legendary
masks has its theme and power, and its adventure has its own atmosphere, color palette,
visual identity.

– Collaborating on the Game Design Document, especially in the story, level design, and
game mechanics sections with the matching system.

What I Learned:

I got a better understanding of how to translate narrative and gameplay ideas into
structured design decisions, especially for world-building, leading to improvement of my
ability to give visual direction in words, which helped our UI teammate move forward
confidently.

Challenges I Faced:

It was a bit tricky figuring out how to find the right combination (mask + animal) for
each legendary mask, and the power to attribute

What I Plan to Work on Next:

– Start modelling the masks.

– Create the background for each quest.

– Write dialogs of the game.

– Design the screen of each start and end of quest.

Personal Reflection:

I’m really enjoying this project because it’s allowing me to use both my creative and
strategic thinking. It also allows me to upgrade my drawing abilities. In the near future, it will
help me to develop the 3D modeling aspect of my skills.
