MY PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT
– By KOFI ASSAN
Role: GODOT GAME DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Date: Friday, June 20, 2025
1st Week: Settling & Sharing
The first week of this internship made use of my creativity and familiarize myself with the
other teammates.
Just like others, we brainstormed ideas on mechanics to expect in our game. We chose to
go for a Top-Down 2D Pixel Art Adventure game taking inspiration from mobile hit, Hunter
Assassin and Nintendo’s mega franchise, Legend of Zelda specifically the old ones to
reduce our scope as we have to be mindful of the scope of our game.
Ideas, Core Mechanics, Gameplay Loop ALL CHECK!!!. Now it’s time to start building.
2nd Week: Commence Operations
The second week was all about using my intermediate knowledge of Godot to
– Move my Player Character
– Set-up the nodes and scenes I’ll need for the project
Now for the best part, levelling up as a Game Developer in the game of life. I had to learn a
couple more things to bring the mechanics to live such as Light Occluding for producing
shadows when light is cast on the Player, Lighting Systems such as Point Light which is
toggled by an assigned button as well as coding the functions to run a line of code when
certain conditions are met such as when the enemies are detected in the Light “zone”.
I am forever grateful for the tutorials I’ve been watching and how intuitive the Godot Engine
has been for a relative beginner in Game Development. I am very excited as to how I’ve
progressed and made me appreciate the development process of games.
