MY FIRST WEEK AS A LETI ARTS INTERN

MY FIRST WEEK AS A LETI ARTS INTERN

– By Georgina Yakoba Adjaye-Aggrey

Role: UNITY GAME DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Date: Friday, June 20, 2025

My Experience

Tell me why I instantly regretted accepting to be an intern at a gaming company-mind you, this has always been my dream ever since I realized I was destined to be a great and famous game developer.

(Inner voice: Well, that’s because you know Unity crashes on your sad laptop)

(Inner inner voice: Technically, it was only because Unity was on my external hard drive. It’s on my laptop now so it works)

(Inner voice: Fast?)

(Inner inner voice: …………….IT WORKS AND THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS)

Everybody calm down! Yes, that was an issue but also because this is my first internship. I honestly never thought that my first internship would be with a gaming company because I didn’t have experience, especially a lot of experience in Unity

(Inner voice: True, all you did was drag random objects when doing the lego game tutorial)

ANYWAAAAY, after I calmed down, I started work on Tuesday. I was a bit worried I wouldn’t be able to contribute much cause I was the last to join the team and they already had a game idea but they were so nice to me and I think they like me

(Inner voice: You’re the group clown and you’re pretty so of course they like you, giirrrl)

*giggles* Oh stahp it! But yes, they filled me in and I was able to contribute (slaaay) and we made good progress and got about 80 or 90% of the work done, agreed on our meeting times and went on our way to research puzzle games for references, especially Candy Crush (overrated but catchy. PLEASE DON’T SHOOT ME)

The next day I was so proud of myself because I found information that helped us understand scoring and point systems. Felt like a detective

(Inner voice: Enola Holmes in the building!)

I just felt so useful and got so emotional

(Inner voice: Madam please, we don’t lie over here)

ANYWAY! Because we had talked a lot the day before, the meeting ended quickly and I went about doing detective work since I am the game developer and I have no art skills to help

(Inner voice: You can draw basic shapes)

(Inner inner voice: You are very mean girl)

The next day we just made the GDD for the game and from my detective work, I found a wonderful and glorious Youtube playlist that is just like what we want to do so WE ARE SAVED (slay agaaain)

For today, I got promoted to sound engineer due to my amazing detective and exploring skills (I’m going to audition to be the next Dora The Explorer) and that is how the week went

I will say I don’t regret it anymore and I’m not that scared to start developing the game cause I have a lot of resources, amazing and helpful teammates who tolerate my jokes that make me seem like an escaped mental patient, Unity works now. I’m just really excited. I don’t know why I was so scared because I need this experience if I really want to be a serious (not literal) game developer and the earlier I start the better. Can’t wait for the upcoming weeks and the amazing things my team will do
